In addition to sponsoring many social activities and events for club members, Cyclone Corvettes, Inc. provides financial support to worthy charities each year.

Toys for Tots has been chosen as our primary club charity for 2007.

The Toys for Tots program has traditionally been one of the most nationally recognized non- profit programs in the United States. From its inception in 1947, the program has continuously provided a means for needy children.

Last year, the Des Moines Toys for Tots program donated nearly 82,000 toys to 195 different organizations in Central Iowa. Thousands of children received toys as a result of the hardworking individuals who make this program a success.

The Marshalltown Veteran's Home has been chosen as our secondary club charity this year.

The present-day focus of the Iowa Veterans Home--to provide professionally managed health care for aging veterans--began to emerge in 1890's with construction of the first infirmary. Six years later, a larger infirmary was built to satisfy the Home's increasing resident/patient population. Throughout the years, the Veterans Home continued to update the physical plan and provide the necessary clinical expertise to meet the ever-increasing health care needs for individuals admitted for care.

Today with veterans living longer and requiring a wide range of health care service, skilled care is an important service offered by the Home.

In 2006, we supported Mainstream Living, Inc and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Mainstream Living, Inc

Mainstream Living Inc. began in 1975 as the outgrowth of the concern and diligent work of a group of Story County parents who recognized the need for community-based services for their sons and daughters with mental retardation.  The only residential options available at this time were Woodward State Hospital School or the Story County Care Facility, both located in rural areas, away from families and friends. Through a small County Association of Retarded Citizens, Mainstream incorporated as a non-profit corporation.

In 1976, Mainstream began providing services to persons with disabilities by operating two six-bed homes for children located in Ames. The organization employed 20 staff. Today, Mainstream Living serves over 250 persons with disabilities in Story, Polk and Dallas counties, and employs more than 350 staff persons.

Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation

For more than 20 years, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation has been a global leader in the fight against breast cancer through its support of innovative research and community-based outreach programs. Working through a network of U.S. and international Affiliates and events like the Komen Race for the Cure®, the Komen Foundation is fighting to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by funding research grants and supporting education, screening and treatment projects in communities around the world.
